Faire sens de « l’enfer privé » : Les capitaines des navires négriers et le Stanford Prison Experiment

This essay served as my final paper for a class titled Esclavage et liberté. Throughout this piece, I compare the behavior of slave ship captains with prison guards from the 1971 social experiment, the Stanford Prison Experiment. This analysis allows for a psychological assessment of how and why men in both situations were able to behave in the horrifying manners they did, and it offers an acknowledgment of how similar events can and still do happen today.
